Victorian Sidebar Buggy

SOLD
This expertly completed older restoration dates to the mid 1980s but is still in very good order. The buggy is reputed to have belonged to Dr Earle Page, the 11th Prime Minister of Australia and prominent Grafton resident, about 1900. A thoroughly modern man, Dr Page bought his first car in 1904 so this buggy would pre-date that. Neatly painted in Indian red with contrasting fine linework, black trim and brass mounted folding hood. Sarven hub wooden wheels with rubber tyres, all in good order.
We turn over about 40 carriages a year, ranging across the whole spectrum of antique pleasure vehicles. Below you will see some of the carriages sold most recently. Should you see something that interests you please ask as we can often source similar vehicles. Others are of course unique so our advice is to buy promptly, it may take several years to find another!

English Extension-front Brougham
$24,000
SOLD
A magnificent extension front Brougham which survived in totally original condition until the 1980s and then underwent a cosmetic restoration. Now presented in two tone livery with a rich gold brocade deep buttoned interior seating four, the doors have sliding windows, and carpets and upholstered headlining are fitted.
Victorian Canoe Landau
$18,000
SOLD
A magnificent 19th century formal vehicle which was the subject of an older restoration. Canoe Landaus are among the most desirable formal vehicles and this reasonably priced example will form the basis for a truly splendid carriage with some cosmetic adjustments. The coachwork is intact and generally the vehicle is in near running order with good wheels, springs, undercarriage and body. No roof is fitted however this could be easily re-instated. Under the bright paintwork the vehicle is effectively very original and will respond beautifully to gentle refurbishment in more appropriate colours. Thought to have been a Vice-Regal vehicle in Queensland, and research is ongoing to substantiate this.
